This week, our winning Oh Come On moment is as follows:
*My business partner in a construction contracting company was notorious for parking tickets and speeding tickets. Running out of gas by the side of the road and needing to be rescued was a common occurrence. Modus operandi for him was to wait until everything blew up, which was how he applied his management style — wait and react, then run and hide! After almost losing his license for unpaid parking tickets, which he billed to the company, he went through a speeding ticket episode where he received four tickets in close succession. Again, he charged he the company. On the last ticket, he approached me — his partner — and showed me that the ticket was via photo radar and had him clearly marked as the driver. The ticket had now doubled in cost because he failed to handle it and he was now being threatened with suspension of his license. He then proceeded to try and convince me to help him get out of paying the ticket. He asked me to call the authorities and inform them that it was me in the photo driving his car as we look similar, that way he wouldn’t lose more points and possibly his license, and since I hadn’t lost any I could afford it. He had it all figured out.And not to worry! We’ll just bill it to the company, he added.Moral of the story: A president who is not accountable to their own rules sets the double standard that leads to the destruction of the corporate creed. If your boss is a clown why can’t you be one too?
Oh, Come On.
Each week, we’ll ask you to provide your own Oh, Come On moment for us to share with the world. Shoot an email to Looking@look-solutions.com with a story you have to tell of a coworker or someone you know in the workforce who did something utterly idiotic. We’ll then share it in a list in each week’s post (while absolutely honoring your desire for anonymity; all stories will be posted sans names), and at the end of each week, we’ll provide the person who gave us the best Oh, Come On moment with a $10 Starbucks gift card! After all, who doesn’t deserve a few cups of coffee for having put up with workplace idiocy? We all do.
Now it’s your turn! Send us your Oh, Come On moments and next thing you know, you’ll be feeling better, sipping coffee and smiling that you’re not the only one who’s had to deal with one or two ridiculous and absurd workplace situations.
